Anthony Halstead - Conductor
Tony Halstead was born in Manchester, UK, attending Chetham's School and the Royal Manchester College of Music where he studied piano, horn, organ and composition. Subsequently he studied the harpsichord with George Malcolm and conducting with Sir Charles Mackerras and Michael Rose.
Tony Halstead has been Principal Horn of the London Symphony and English Chamber Orchestras and - on the natural horn – Principal Horn of The Hanover Band, The Academy of Ancient Music, L’Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, English Concert and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
His many fine solo recordings – as horn soloist, harpsichord, fortepiano soloist and conductor - are internationally admired. Tony Halstead was Professor of Horn at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama 1971-1999 and has held visiting consultant appointments at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Tony is married with 3 children and lives in Kent, UK. He is a freelance horn soloist, conductor and harpsichordist-director and has conducted all current Absent Soloists CD issues.
Alan Wiltshire - Producer
Formerly Music Director, A&R Director and Senior and Executive Producer at Nimbus Records, Alan Wiltshire has worked as a producer with many of the great orchestras of the world, winning Gramophone, Grande Prix de Disque, Koussevitsky and Stern des Monats awards, amongst others. He has produced over 300 orchestral CDs, including many of Tony Halstead's solo French horn discs.
He studied music at York University, winning the Performing Rights Society’s prestigious John Lennon Memorial Award, with which he studied for an MMus at the University of Surrey. He holds a Diploma in Composition from Trinity College, London and is a freelance horn player and a Director of hornsAplenty.com
Alan is married with 2 children and 1 grandchild, and lives in Gloucestershire, UK. He produced all current Absent Soloists CD issues.
